What employers in Singapore expect from a resume
- Length
- 1-2 pages.
- Personal details
- The Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices discourage age, marital status, gender and race on applications; many candidates still include them, but leaving them off is safer. A law (the Workplace Fairness Act) is due to take effect at the end of 2027. Never include religion or your NRIC/FIN number.
- References
- Leave off "References available upon request". Employers assume it, and references go on a separate page when they ask.
- Spelling
- Use British spelling (colour, organise).
- Location
- Give your location as Singapore.
- Right to work
- If it helps your application, say it plainly, for example "Singapore Citizen", "Singapore PR" or your current work pass.
- Also worth knowing
- Citizenship, PR or work-pass status is commonly stated because it affects hiring.
Cover letters in Singapore
- Opening
- "Dear <name>," if the post names a contact, otherwise "Dear Hiring Manager,".
- Closing
- "Yours sincerely," or "Kind regards,".
- Subject line
- Not needed.
